Gelsted
In 1682, the village of Gelsted consisted of 10 farms, 3 houses with land and 3 houses without land. The total cultivated area amounted to 397.5 tønder land. In 1865, Gelsted gained a railway connection, but since the station was located some distance from the village, a new station town developed, which only later merged with the old village centre.
Around 1900, Gelsted was a thriving community with a church, rectory, two schools, mission house, community hall, railway, telegraph and telephone station, inn, and cooperative dairy. Today, history and modern life meet side by side: At the Carl Hansen & Søn Flagship Store, timeless elegance, local craftsmanship and sustainable world-class Danish design come together in an experience you can truly feel.
Gelsted also cherishes vibrant traditions. Every year in week 33, the Gelsted Market takes place, one of Denmark’s largest markets, attracting visitors from near and far. For those seeking nature experiences, the Brænde Ådal valley offers a unique landscape with cultural traces that connect the area to its long history.
